Bronze age rock carvings

I've wanted to see the bronze age rock carvings in the Tanum area of nothern Bohuslän for a long time. And since I'm on vacation and don't have much else to do right now, I went there a few days ago. It was really amazing and I can recommend it to anyone interested.

I have put a bunch of pictures in my image gallery for those of you who can't go there and see for yourself.

These carvings are part of the World Heritage area that got on the UNESCO World Heritage list in 1994. The entire area is 45 sqare km. and it is literally littered with carvings - thousands of them. The most prominent and easiest to get to are found mainly in four areas, Vitlycke, Aspeberget, Litsleby, and Fossum.

There are all kinds of carvings, but the single most prominent motive are boats, indicating that the people 3000 years ago travelled a lot. There are also many warriors with axes, swords and shields. Animals, like deer, and elk, and also cattle abound. And of course there are carvings of more obscure meaning, perhaps religious, perhaps just doodles, Who am I to tell? Anyhow, it is just awesome!
